VEGA produces synthetic environment for Finmeccanica stand
at Le Bourget 2009
30/06/2009 - As part of Finmeccanica's presence at the 2009 Le
Bourget air Show in Paris, VEGA Technologies SAS (VEGA) was
commissioned to produce the 3D real-time visualisation for
Finmeccanica's stand.
Using VEGA's GlobSim software, the visualisation illustrated
Finmeccanica's range of equipment and products in different
environments, such as civil protection, maritime protection and
crisis management in an urban area. The objective of the different
scenarios was to demonstrate the breadth of Finmeccanica's
capability in developing integrated systems in response to varying
operational requirements and customers (including civil protection,
army and police), and in any application domain (such as
maritime surveillance, border surveillance, and emergency
management). Products featured included helicopters, aircraft,
telecom systems, UAVs and sensors produced by Finmeccanica
subsidiaries.
The 3D simulator and several scenarios were demonstrated in the
Strategic Situation Center (SSC) of the Finmeccanica stand. The
synthetic environment, called FOSTER (Finmeccanica Open Synthetic
TERain), was a virtual island comprised of desert, mountains, port
and urban areas. The four scenarios were:
- Crisis management in an urban area (explosion in the
underground, with injured people)
- Maritime protection: protecting a cargo vessel, heading towards
the port transporting high-value cargo, and threatened by a hostile
vessel
- Critical infrastructure protection: protecting an offshore oil
platform, threatened by a hostile vessel
- Defence: attacking an insurgent village in a desert
environment
